The AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course provides new fundraisers-those with up to four years of professional experience-with an intensive introduction into the building blocks of effective practice. To design this 16-hour course, experienced fundraising professionals evolved AFP's introductory programs to address the real-world needs and challenges non-profit organizations face every day.

The intensive program provides an overview of skills, techniques, and program components, and includes substantive case studies and projects for both groups and individuals.

The course is organized into seven modules:

  1. Overview of Fundraising
  2. Developing an Integrated Fundraising Program
  3. Marketing for Ongoing Success
  4. Building & Sustaining Relationships
  5. Securing the Gift
  6. Volunteers - Partners in Fundraising
  7. Management & Accountability

"I was lucky enough to take this course on the second day in my new role as the Development Director for a local nonprofit. The instructors were knowledgeable and the coursework was relevant. The class provided me with 'basic building blocks' for fundraising success, and I still refer back to my textbook quite frequently! I would highly recommend this course to new (and old!) fundraisers—as fundraising fundamentals are of value to all of us."
- Angie Hatfield Marker, VP of Development, Community Foundation of East Central Illinois

Fundamentals is a great primer for those new to the field of fundraising, but it also has the potential to be a beneficial study tool with lasting impact on your career. The course is applicable to 16.0 points of CFRE Credit for initial certification or re-certification. This program is only offered at the chapter level every 3 years or so.

In addition, the course features case studies and small-group projects--making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. Those who complete the course are eligible to receive CFRE credit.
